Airstream: A Brief History & Why We Love Them

Hello! To begin, our intention is not for this page to represent a full history of Airstream. We're going to tell y'all a little bit about the history of Airstream, what makes them iconic and why we here at Dave Arbogast RV Depot LOVE our Airstreams. Enjoy the read and give us a call if you'd like to learn some more!

Airstream began with founder Wally Byam's spirit of adventure and some really awesome innovative thinking. Wally had a calling for adventure and travel, he set out to make a way for he and his wife Marion to explore freely with shelter that went with them. In the 1920's His first attempt was said to be a "tent contraption that he built on a Model T chassis", it wasn't so great in the rain though, so the tent was replaced with a permanent structure. He got so many questions and comments about the early structure that he decided that this would be a good business to get into. Through the 20's and 30's Wally and his business partner, Neil Vanderbilt Jr., would conceptualize and begin building trailers for eager customers.

That was the very beginning of a brand that would become an American icon. Airstream developed a recognizable look and feel to their trailer. The now Classic aluminum riveted exterior is how you can spot an Airstream in a crowd. Airstream is now known for it's astounding quality and innovative design. Every new RV feature can be found in the line of Airstream trailers and motorhomes. Since the 1950's Airstream has taken customer feedback very seriously, they truly listen to what Airstreamers think and try to mold each new model RV to fit the wants and needs of the customers.

An Airstream RV can be seen as a sound investment. You can still see Airstream trailers from the 70's and 80's still on the road today! Airstream builds their RVs for reliability and quality. There is a long history of longevity throughout the company history that no other manufacturers can claim. Many owners make it a point of pride to keep their Airstream trailers for decades and during the 90's a new club was formed - the Vintage Airstream Club - for those who have a trailer that is at least 25 years old.

Why We Love Them

Here at Dave Arbogast RV Depot we have a wonderful relationship with this iconic brand. We're the closest Airstream dealer to the Jackson Center manufacturing plant and we visit often. Our Salesmen visit the plant a couple times a year for training and our friends from Airstream drop by from time to time to give us updates on what is coming next! We're proud to carry these amazing trailers and motorhomes  for their quality and fantastic craftsmanship.

A reason that we must mention is the safety of their line of motorhomes. Airstream has spared no expense and left no box unchecked when it comes to the safety features installed on their products. All of the latest safety features are included. Some standard options are an added on the most recent Interstate thorax airbag, collision prevention system, blind spot assist, lane keep assist, and an included first aid and roadside safety kit. The safety provided by these RVs is unmatched in any other, making it a clear favorite among customers. Family is very important to us here and we fully endorse the Interstate and the entire Airstream line as one of the safest options on the road.

We're happy to serve the areas of Troy, Tipp City, Laura, Casstown, Ludlow Falls, Dayton, Piqua, Lima and Versailles; and our service goes far beyond our back yard, wherever you are you can call Dave Arbogast RV Depot
